What is military car insurance?
Military car insurance is a standard auto policy with discounts and service options for people who serve: a military discount of up to 15% for active duty, retired military, National Guard and Reserves, a lower rate while deployed to a danger pay area, the ability to store a vehicle under reduced coverage during a deployment, and coverage that moves with you on a PCS or overseas tour. Military discounts and benefits
GEICO started in 1936 writing auto insurance for government employees and service members, and it still runs a dedicated military team staffed by veterans. Through our agency you get the same programs with a local office behind them:
- Military Discount. Up to 15% off the total premium for active duty, retired military, National Guard and Reserves. The amount varies by state.
- Emergency Deployment Discount. When you receive orders to a Department of Defense imminent danger pay area and your vehicle is kept under an approved storage protection plan, your premium drops for the deployment. Some areas and operations are excluded; not available in all states.
- Storage protection. Deploying, going to sea or heading to a school? Keep comprehensive coverage on the car (theft, fire, hail, flood, vandalism) and suspend the coverages you are not using, then turn them back on when you are home.
- Membership discounts. Members of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), the Armed Forces Benefit Association (AFBA) and the Navy League of the United States (NLUS) qualify for their own GEICO discounts in most states.
- Military pay plan. Payment schedules that line up with military pay dates.
- Overseas coverage. GEICO writes overseas insurance for vehicles you ship or buy abroad, so an OCONUS tour does not mean starting over with a carrier you do not know.
- Federal employee discount. Civilian DoD and other federal employees may qualify for GEICO's federal employee discount instead.

Can I keep GEICO when I PCS to another state or overseas?
Yes. GEICO writes auto insurance in every state, so a PCS move is a policy update, not a new carrier. For overseas tours GEICO offers overseas insurance for vehicles you ship or buy abroad. Your local agency can coordinate the change.
Does a military quote affect my credit?
No. GEICO uses a soft inquiry for quotes, which does not lower your credit score.
Can my spouse and family get the military discount?
The military discount applies to the policy, so vehicles and drivers on a policy where the named insured is an eligible service member share in it. Ask your agent how your household should be set up to get the full benefit.
Is there a discount for veterans who are no longer serving?
Retired military qualify for the military discount. Veterans who separated without retiring may still qualify through membership in organizations such as the Association of the United States Army, the Armed Forces Benefit Association or the Navy League of the United States, which carry their own GEICO discounts in most states.
